As the administrative centre for the whole of the Algarve region, the city of Faro is perhaps the most intriguing city in the whole of Portugal. For those who want to holiday in Faro without a hangover, the Ria Formosa Lagoon is a great place to visit. It is a nature reserve which has over 17,000 and is located on the coast of the Algarve which is close to Faro. The park is one of the area’s most popular tourist destinations and is a wonderful place for nature lovers to spend the day. It is a protected nature reserve, covers 60 km of coastline and has sand dunes, lagoons, small sand islands and much more.
There is plenty to do on your holiday in Faro from the old part of the city which is still surrounded by Roman walls which date back to the 9th Century to relaxing on long, sandy beaches. As well as this you can visit the Capela d’Ossos which is a Chapel of Bones. Although a bizarre attraction it is lined with an estimated 1,245 skulls and bones. For something a bit more traditional there is a bus that runs to Praia de Faro where you can water ski, fish or just rent a deck chair and umbrella and lounge in the sun.
With stunning beaches, sensational weather throughout the year and great attractions for all the family to enjoy a holiday in Faro will be thoroughly enjoyable for all. Faro is also a popular destination for golfing holidays and is also a great place to go for a family beach holiday or a romantic short break.
